Corinne Eckert, B. Ed., M. Ed., R. Psych.

Meet Corinne, a passionate and dedicated professional in the field of child and educational psychology. Corinne has devoted herself to supporting children and adolescents in their emotional, intellectual, and social development. Her journey began with a genuine love for working with children, starting from her early days of babysitting, where she delighted in playing games and engaging in creative activities with young ones. During her university years, training to be a teacher, she further honed her skills as a playground leader, making summers memorable for children under her care.

Throughout her time in the classroom, Corinne used positive and fun strategies to foster her students' intellectual and social development. During this period, Corinne realized her inclination towards helping children and adolescents with emotional and developmental challenges. Motivated to provide comprehensive support, she pursued further education and obtained a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology, specializing in counselling, ultimately becoming a Registered Psychologist.

During her training to become a Registered Psychologist, Corinne gained valuable experience as a school counsellor, working on an individual and organizational level. She has successfully developed school-wide primary treatment programs with dedicated staff, administrators, and students. Corinne has also taken on administrative roles, serving on the Department of Education Ministerial Review Committee and the Attendance Board, where she helped to resolve issues impacting the progress of individual students. Her involvement with the Public Education Committee of the Psychologists Association of Alberta has allowed her to promote a broader understanding of the benefits of psychological support to the public.

Over the years, Corinne has continuously pursued additional training in child development, mental illness, and effective treatment strategies. She has blended her expertise with her innate ability to create engaging and positive experiences for children and teens. Her approach encompasses both lighthearted engagement and tackling serious mental health issues. Corinne strongly believes in collaboration with caregivers and other professionals to support children with complex needs.

Driven by her passion to make a meaningful impact, Corinne eventually established her own treatment centre. Here, she works collaboratively with teachers, parents, and directly with children and other caregivers to provide exceptional support to children and teens, identifying and working to achieve individualized treatment goals and helping each child feel heard and successful.

Corinne has also worked diligently to develop her Training in Core Social Skills© treatment program, to support the social development and successful social interactions of children and teens who may struggle with this. Building understanding, self-awareness, confidence and skill in social interaction are important goals of this program. Along with providing excellent goal-oriented and family-focused counselling for children and teens, her clinic, Corinne Eckert Child & Adolescent Psychology, now supports approximately 150 families each year through their social skills programming.

Corinne strongly believes in sharing her expertise to help developing psychologists achieve excellent skills and competence. She has served as an instructor in the School and Clinical Child Psychology program at the University of Alberta, has mentored Masters and PhD. practicum students, as well as Registered Provisional Psychologists in her clinic. Through her Training in Core Social Skills program, she and her colleagues have also provided training sessions to teachers and school counsellors, aiming to reach and support as many students as possible.

Corinne's unwavering dedication to the well-being and development of children and teens, coupled with her expertise and collaborative approach, has led her to welcome other skilled and passionate clinicians into her clinic, making her and her team a trusted group, well-known for commitment and excellence. With this team, you can expect compassionate support, evidence-based strategies, and a genuine commitment to helping children and families thrive.
